...Besides his ability to draw big names - producer Drew Barrymore also wanders through, simpering - director Ken Kwapis can include fairness in his skill set. Pedro Almodovar would have picked sides (the women's, undoubtedly) and made you love them all. Cameron Crowe successfully endeared us to both sexes in Singles. In Kwapis' world, the scales of jerkdom go back and forth, finally tilting ever so slightly toward men when Kris Kristofferson, in the small role of Beth's father, announces that of his four daughters, she has always been his favorite...

Knowledge of the impending losses forced BofA CEO Ken Lewis to ask the government for an additional $20 billion in TARP funds - on top of the $25 billion it had already received - as well as about $100 billion in loan guarantees. Without the government assistance, BofA says, it couldn't have closed the merger...

...race for the RNC's chairmanship on the fifth ballot by a vote of 91 to 77 against Katon Dawson, chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party, who was hobbled by his previous membership in an all-white country club. At one point, one of Steele's rivals was Ken Blackwell, an African American and a former Ohio secretary of state, who was widely viewed as too dogmatically conservative to head a party desperate for moderation and who eventually threw his support behind Steele. The original slate of candidates included Tennessee GOP chairman Chip Saltsman, who had distributed...
