Joan Cohen and her husband, Jerome, professor of Law, stood chatting with Kendall and reporters early yesterday evening.
"We won because it's right and it's long overdue," Ann Kendall, chairman of the Committee to Ratify the ERA, said as she watched returns filter in last night.
Train service between the Kendall and Charles stations on the Red Line will be halted for at least the next two Sundays, an MBTA spokesman said yesterday. Buses will run between the stations all day Sunday while workmen waterproof the Longfellow Bridge.
Kendall, noting that 15 states already have equal rights amendments, said the ERA "is not a strange or exotic animal."
