With the U. S. supplying these much-needed reconnaissance and training ships, new Secretary of State for Air Sir Kingsley Wood intends to keep Britain's factories rolling out bombers and fighting planes. Both U. S. contracts are a result of investigations by Britain's air mission, which returned to England fortnight ago after scouting production facilities of U. S. and Canadian concerns. No Canadian contracts were let last week but the Ministry admitted that a move to aid Canadian aircraft production, in line with the mother country's longview program to make the Dominions self-sufficient...

Lord Nuffield, long at loggerheads with Lord Swinton, will place his mammoth Morris auto plant, the largest in Europe, at the Government's disposal for the mass production of airframes. The motor magnate had previously turned out only tanks...

...House of Commons saw this as a series of merited promotions for Sir Kingsley, MacDonald, Stanley and Elliot who have long been marked as comparatively youthful "comers." In the dropping out of Peers Swinton and Harlech was seen an effort to give the Chamberlain Cabinet a more "democratic" guise before a General Election becomes necessary. This week London papers began saying openly that for this same reason Viscount Halifax may soon be succeeded as Foreign Secretary by a "commoner," possibly even by Vote Getter Anthony Eden...
