French Complicity. This month Parisians were being titillated by press interviews with a French ex-convict and freelance barbouze (undercover agent) named Georges Figon, who claimed to have seen Oufkir torture Ben Barka with a curved Moroccan knife at the suburban villa, then leave him to suffocate in his bonds. When Figon's accounts first began to appear in two weekly magazines, Minute and L'Express, the government tried to ignore the affair-just as the Gaullists had done during the December presidential election. Then, last week, the police moved in to arrest Figon, but, they reported...

...Alpine Drive. The maid-a Beverly Hills policewoman-answered, told the caller that Mr. Firestone could not be disturbed. Twenty minutes later, a black 1965 Ford sedan pulled into the semicircular driveway. Two men walked toward the door. Terry (1855-59), for example, was a ferocious Mississippian who began honing his bowie knife on assorted victims as a 13-year-old soldier in the Texas War of Independence. After getting elected to the California court on the Know-Nothing ticket, Terry was jailed and convicted for stabbing a San Francisco vigilante. Not only was Terry freed, he became chief justice in 1857 and promptly killed U.S. Senator David C. Broderick in California...

After his release, he attacked Field on a California train and was about to draw his bowie knife when Field's bodyguard shot and killed him. Field went on to serve the longest term in Supreme Court history (34 years, nine months). Sarah spent the next 45 years in an insane asylum...

...this activity continues," said Monte Gordon, research vice president of Bache & Co., "we will go through 1000 like a hot knife through butter." Gordon's exuberant prediction was based on a significant shift in market activity. The New York Stock Exchange in 1965 traded a record 1.6 billion shares, and the most active part of it was in speculative stocks. Harris, Upham & Co. keeps an informal kind of risky-stock Dow-Jones of its own. Says Senior Vice President Ralph A. Rotnem, "According to our figures, this is the most speculative market since 1959." Harris, Upham's speculative...
