Last Friday night the cast and crew of 'Rumors' faced a gag they weren't really prepared for. As one of the characters was walking offstage, the door he was leaving through fell completely off its hinge, leaving him turning the knob on a large piece of plywood. Nevertheless, the cast coped well, even ad-libbing lines about the dismembered door. By the second act the door had been firmly reattached, and the cast resumed acting out what it had rehearsed...
...resembles an arresting 2001: A Space Odyssey-type monolith. Toshiba has included the usual alphabet soup of goodies: 17-in. monitors, Pentium/200 processors, 32-MB ram and 8X CD-ROM drives. The mix creates a superb AV package, controlled by a large, hi-fi-like volume knob, an addition long overdue...
Shannon Faulkner, who fought for more than two years to become the first female "knob" at the Citadel, dropped out of the military college after missing all of the school's "hell week" indoctrination. Indeed, most states have raised the speed limit to 65 m.p.h. since 1987, adding an estimated 400 to 500 deaths a year nationwide...
...show got off to a slow start as Garcia seemed to be having trouble getting comfortable. Throughout both "Feel Like a Stranger" and "They Love Each Other," he would start off on a solo only to stop, adjust a knob, step on a pedal, etc. Not until the third song, "Minglewood Blues," did the band settle down and start to rock. People often forget that, among other things, the Greatful Dead are a great rock 'n' roll band. "Minglewood" was followed by "So Many Roads," a slow ballad that ended with some rousing and soulful singing by Garcia. After switching...
