HLS Administrative Dean Sandra S. Coleman oversaw the administrative aspects of the project and negotiated with Dean of the Faculty Jeremy R. Knowles to obtain FAS consent.
"The odor of Widener's deeper recesses, while providing olfactory nostalgia to generations of readers, is actually the smell of decaying books," Dean of the Faculty Jeremy R. Knowles wrote in his 1999 annual letter to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
But in his annual February letter to the Faculty, Dean of the Faculty Jeremy R. Knowles reiterated FAS' commitment to making the project work.
"The rewards will, I trust, be worth the patience that will surely be demanded of us all, as bugs are eliminated and as we master the new systems," Knowles wrote.
From FAS, Knowles provided early praise for the project.
