...Recently, members of mainstream entertainment industry also seem to have drank the Obama Kool-Aid. The “Yes We Can” video, which features the Black Eyed Peas’ Will.I.Am, Scarlett Johansson, and other celebrities chanting Obama’s New Hampshire primary speech, has popped up all over the internet. From the feigned emotion on these celebrities’ faces, one would think they were reading from the Bible or Shakespeare, not from a relatively well written but somewhat politically banal stump speech. Nonetheless, this nauseating video has now become the new symbol for Obama?...
Yelena S. Mironova ’10 thinks that if everyone always said what they thought, the world would be a huge New York subway station, and no one would like that. Polite half-statements are the kool-aid that keeps everyone’s tongues as bright as their spirits, and their minds blissfully unaware of their neighbor’s intentions to step on their head in the climb up the social/academic/banking ladder. Her cartoons will, hopefully, be a bit less confusing than the blurb you just read, and maybe a bit more uplifting. Judge for yourself...
...highbrow literature, and Nonami's streamlined prose is arguably not up to her prizewinning best. But this pulpy family psychodrama is hugely entertaining - like watching some filmed version of The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test from an adapted screenplay by Mario Puzo and directed by Yasujiro Ozu. And it's not just grotesque fantasy. Now You're One of Us, which was originally published in 1993, as divorce rates in Japan were soaring, is also high-wire social commentary. It's a parodic rebuke of traditional cultural attitudes that subsume individual welfare for the sake of a family unit...

Or maybe a meeting of rap rivals like Nas and Jay-Z, or LL Cool J and Kool Moe Dee, or—well, insert your favorite beef here. A little after midnight that evening, a crowd from the Yankees-Red Sox game belched out of Fenway Park. Whether the game had finished, who had won or lost—I did not know the answers to these questions, and still...
...find the political and popular will to implement the plan. But that's the problem. Brown's proposals are solid, but the real battle over climate change is now political, not technological, and it's one that too many environmentalists tend to discount. If you've drunk the green Kool-Aid, it can seem frustratingly obvious why we need a $240 carbon tax, or why the climate change challenge is on par with World War II, and thus demands Rosie the Riveter redux. But the true, painstaking challenge of the next few years will be building a broad political coalition...
