Alban Berg's Violin Concerto will be played by Louis Krasner in its first American performances by the Boston Symphony Orchestra at this week's concerts. Berg, a disciple of the famous exiled German composer, Schoenberg, wrote this particular work while deeply affected by the death of one of his closest friends, Manon Gropius, the stepdaughter of Gustav Mahler.
