Director Benny Chan has packed Heroic Duo with sophisticated weaponry, high-speed car chases and dizzying stunts, including one stomach-quivering sequence in which a character traverses two skyscrapers using a wobbly, metal stepladder. Noticeably absent are high-wire kung fu acrobatics; Chan, who first gained notoriety with kung fu fantasy Magic Crane, apparently no longer wants anything to do with Chinamen in robes?unless they're behind the wheel of a Ferrari Testarossa...

...Abandoning his cultural kung fu roots may have proved to be a wise business move for Chan?Arclight, a U.S. film distributor based in Australia, has already bought the movie's international and U.S. distribution and licensing rights for a seven-figure sum. (Chan's 1998 Jackie Chan vehicle Who Am I? and Gen-X Cops were both distributed overseas by Columbia TriStar.) Like his previous action flicks, Heroic Duo goes for the mainstream jugular, but this time Benny Chan devotes enough screen time to character development so that you care (slightly) about these characters before they're blown...

...please, spare us the equal-opportunity keening about Charlie's Angels and Tomb Raiders. The first series is a kung-fu pajama party; the giga-giggling Angels are girls, not adult women. Katharine Hepburn had more vim than the three of them put together. And Angelina Jolie's Lara Croft, for all her googol-24-36 figure, is emotionally not a woman at all. She's a rumbustious guy whose response to nearly any challenge is to open the artillery...

...computer game, anyone can be an action hero. Launched in the U.K. last week and due across Europe this summer, EyeToy is a PlayStation 2 add-on that uses a motion-tracking camera to transfer a player's own image into one of 12 available games - in my case Kung Foo. The player then controls the game and interacts with other characters by moving his arms, hands, legs and feet. No joystick, no buttons: if you want to kick virtual butt, use your real leg. Each EyeToy game encourages energetic movement - players...

...fracas in The Matrix Reloaded and the Hollywood-and-Vine destruction derby in The Italian Job. This week 2F2F is joined by Hollywood Homicide, with a careering, nonstop trip through Beverly Hills and other L.A. tourist spots. Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle will show how car stunts can outdo kung fu. In Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, mankind's savior will try to keep his Toyota Tundra out of the clutches of a 160-ton crane. The summer keeps on truckin' with Bad Boys II (Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in a Ferrari and a Hummer) and the freewheelers...
