...city is suing Moreno and the Angels for violating the spirit of a 1996 agreement with prior team owner Disney. The city conceded the bulk of revenue sharing with the Angels in exchange for the Anaheim label (the team was called the California Angels from 1965, the year before it moved from Los Angeles to Anaheim, through 1996). "He's stepping on the little guy, the taxpayer," says Pringle, who claims that under the pre-1996 contract the city would have received $11.5 million more from the team last season. The Angels note that Anaheim is still in the title...

...partner in building and then fleeing the company--is indeed signing on but not as a hire. In one of two deals that will launch a privately owned Tom Ford luxury brand, the Texas-born designer--who long maintained that he would never put his name on a label--will design a limited line of beauty products due out this holiday season under a Tom Ford for Estée Lauder label and follow up with a stand-alone series of cosmetics and fragrances. Indeed, he says, Leonard Lauder himself set the wheels of the deal in motion after De Sole approached him last summer in Aspen, Colo., where the two own homes. But the quidnuncs were half right. John Demsey, who ran the M.A.C. business before becoming global president of the Lauder brand in January, admits that he and Aerin Lauder...

...some sharp-eyed TIME readers were surprised last week to see a photo of the Majority Leader smoking one of Cuba's best-a Hoyo de Monterrey double corona, which generally costs about $25 when purchased overseas and is not available in this country. The cigar's label clearly states that it was made in "Habana." The photo was taken in Jerusalem on July 28, 2003, during a meeting between DeLay and the Republican Jewish Coalition at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem...
