...hidden sex scenes have crossed the line. The discovery that in the latest edition, San Andreas, avid fans can direct X-rated action-- by accessing code on the Internet to unlock content on the disk--has led the game-ratings board to slap it with a restrictive Adults Only label. No surprise there. Less expected, however, is the major role Democrats have played in the campaign to protect children from nasty video games. The Democratic-controlled Illinois legislature recently passed a bill that would make it a crime to sell violent or sexually explicit games to kids under 18. Hillary...
...Your report about the Iraqi suicide bomber was extremely insightful [July 4]. I think the public needs to learn more about Iraqi extremists. Few people ask why the bombers give up their lives. It's much easier to label those people as outcasts without trying to understand their position. I want to read more interviews with those militants. I know it's dangerous to gather information on the views of extremist individuals, but the stories the bombers tell are invaluable. Jeff Hayford Nashua, New Hampshire...
...Roberts replace her affect the court's chemistry? He's not likely to simply take her place, says Lee Epstein, a co-author of an upcoming Supreme Court nomination history, Advice and Consent. It is possible that Bush thinks he has found a bomb thrower with a pleasant face. But the choice could indicate where the President comes...

A more helpful illustration would have been a list of a few recent rulings side by side with the names of the Justices who voted with the majority. Attaching a label to a Justice is too simplistic, especially when there is no common agreement on what the label means. The media should concentrate on the character and qualifications of a potential nominee rather than his or her political leanings...
...infests every piece of policy on the table. A proposal to ban junk-food sales in public schools is quickly advancing through the chambers in Sacramento, while one that would end soda sales (thought to be a direct cause of obesity that is easier to delineate than the nebulous label of “junk food”) is stalling due to aggressive lobbying from Pepsi and Coke. Such policies should at least be applied consistently...
