Such is the pathos of the Manhattan Front Row Girls (FRGs) depicted in British fashionista turned novelist Plum Syke’s new novel Bergdorf Blondes, to be released in April by Miramax Books. The light-hearted, designer label-laden novel is latest of the “chick-lit” fiction craze that has spawned a plethora of unlikely pop heroines from Bridget Jones to Sex and the City’s Samantha Jones...

...mystical eyes, Charlize Theron could just as easily have worn an old newspaper and still would have been the most glamorous person at the show. She instead opted for a strappy, sequined champagne gown, aptly showcasing one of Tom Ford’s final designs under the Gucci label. The subdued color of the dress went perfectly with the vivid shades of her hair and skin...

Sheesh, talk about a worthless album. Not since all those Sonic Youth noise records have I been clobbered over the head with something so disappointingly unlistenable and uninspired. At least the folks behind SY had the decency to release that shit under a different name and label, admitting from the outset that the meager effort they put in wasn’t worth the same respect or attention as their real music. "Real reforms," he says, "means a better standard of living within Islamic morals...

...Geisel PM cartoons that Cohen reproduces enlist the Seuss menagerie in a dirty holy war. One panel has both a Hortonish elephant ("G.O.P.") and an "isolation ostrich: smiling indulgently at their "baby" - a squalling hybrid label a "GOPstrich" - as the elephant says, "He's a noisy little-so-and-so, but, sweetheart, he's all ours!" A serpent with swastikas snakes across the Atlantic while a figure marked Lindbergh pats its head, declaring, "'Tis Roosevelt, Not Hitler, that the World Should Really Fear." Seuss' mascot for America, an eagle with an Uncle Sam beard and striped top hat, sits...
