...advice to career guidance, they work very hard. But their response in this case was just nonsensical. There was no reason for them to make this issue a performance one. It is much simpler. It is about access to key materials. The lack of communication between the Adaptive Technology lab and AEO created a confusion amidst which no one realized, for over two months, that Harvard did not actually own a mimeograph. That hindered Sally’s performance not only in our seminar, but also in Expos and Japanese. Needless to say, she is not the only...

Residents sharply questioned University officials last night about the consequences of storing large quantities of flammable chemicals in a new science lab being built directly behind the Science Center. Harvard is seeking a permit from the City of Cambridge to house 19,586 cubic feet of flammable gasses, 24,586 pounds of flammable solids, and 1,080 gallons of diesel fuel in the new Laboratory for Integrated Science and Engineering (LISE), set to be completed early next year. The permit process requires that Harvard inform nearby residents in the Agassiz neighborhood of its intent to store dangerous chemicals...

According to David Clapham, Castaneda Professor of Cardiovascular Research at Harvard Medical School and the principal investigator of Kirichok’s lab, understanding the function of CatSper can lead to the development of CatSper blockers to serve as contraceptives. Hydra Biosciences, a biotech company co-founded by Clapham, is already developing a drug that would specifically target CatSper...

First discovered by Clapham’s lab in 2001, the CatSper protein is activated by the higher pH environment of the female cervix. Activated CatSper allow calcium ions to flow into the sperm’s tail. The calcium influx, measurable as an electrical current, alters the way the flagella bends and hyper-activates the tail’s motor proteins. In experiments, mice altered to lack the CatSper protein had weak swimming sperm and were infertile...
