...year-old girl who lives in my boarding house. She left school a few years ago to earn money for her family and is up at dawn each day doing domestic chores until late in the evening. As a Harvard student, I complain about excessive homework, the lack of social life at school and what was served in the dining hall for dinner. The disparity between livelihoods is just so unbelievably vast. Who's the adult here? And this week, with this pained awareness of the grave injustices that linger, I am returning home to my own fortuitous life...

Love or hate the Kennedys, there is no family in American history like them--not the Adamses, not the Roosevelts. They may lack the blue-blood lineage, but they have stuck together (even if the glue has sometimes been messy), have forged and sustained a civilization before our eyes. By choosing it as their lead single, the Chemical Brothers are perhaps making a conscious commitment to doing it on their own terms. Certainly Surrender has other songs more immediately appealing to the casual listener. But "Hey Boy Hey Girl" is an out-and-out dance song, with an eminently catchy hook ("Hey Boy/Hey Girl/Superstar DJs/Here We Go") that launches...
