...Brewery, (66 2) 6781 1146, could be found only in Bangkok. The world's best?and as far as I know, only?Thai-German bar and restaurant, the three-year-old beer hall serves generous pitchers of original microbrews concocted by Bavarian brewmaster Mr. Joken. Besides the rivers of lager, Tawandaeng intoxicates its nightly crowd of Thai professionals with its energetic house band Fong Nam, who play a mix of traditional Thai songs and sugary Western pop. Legendary Thai folk icon Ad Carabao gave a series of concerts at Tawandaeng's music hall last September. Film star Steven Seagal even...

...Singapore's popular expat-heavy Brewerkz, (65) 6438 7438, micro has gone macro. The 840-sq. m brewery, opened in 1997 by the son of a teetotaling Methodist minister, makes 10 different original brews, from Singapore Pale Ale to Oatmeal Stout to Millennium Lager, available in a yard-size glass for a whopping $20 apiece. And according to RICHARD SCHOLZ, owner of Bierkraft, a beer specialty store, U.S. brewers are making truer, more traditional Oktoberfests than their Teutonic counterparts. Scholz, New York City bartenders M.J. KEANE and RORY FARRELLY, and amateur microbrew aficionado MEGAN CLARK tasted 12 currently available brews and chose their favorites for TIME...

...Summers. So this week, Drinky Drink challenges you to put your well-rested brain to the test and brew some of your own malt beverage. The process, though a little lengthier than a trip to Louie’s (an ale can be made in a week and a lager in one to two months), is well worth it. Rock Bottom’s senior brewer Scott Hutchinson—who makes 570 gallons at a time in the back room of the Square eatery—says many of the benefits of beer brewing lie in the satisfaction...
