...been an impressive performance, especially coming from a member of the lame-duck Administration of an unpopular President. What's not at all certain, though, is whether it's all going to work - to revive housing, prevent recession and avert a future mortgage bailout of epic, trillion-dollar proportions. The candidates for President are watching closely: both Barack Obama and John McCain have generally endorsed Paulson's actions, but it's clear that - with Obama's candidacy propelled in part by economic discontent - McCain has a greater stake in the current Administration's success. Either way, the next President...
...That post-Sharon political drift, combined with the serial reversals suffered by the Bush Administration across the Middle East - and its lame-duck status as the region waits for a new U.S. President - may at least explain why Israel's political class had been willing to allow Olmert to stumble on for so long. Maybe commenters are just on one side of a cultural disconnect between two incompatible ideas of what the social conventions of the Internet should be. One is based on the standards of real-world, off-line politeness...
...house, since Colicchio figures he'll be too tempted to cheat at Craft by stealing from the pantry. He snips some basil from my garden, takes some Parmesan from my fridge and spends half an hour doing what he calls cooking and what I call making me realize how lame I am. I didn't know I am supposed to sharpen my knives every time I use them. Or that I should use so much oil. Or clean as I go along. He made fun of me for wanting to time things and for buying prepeeled garlic. (I also...
