...even now, with much of the Harvard community relocating to the (not a) village, conceivably there may be some time to adjust to the barren land of post-graduate life. After all, is not cooking supposed...
...armed forces, when politicians pushed the military to streamline its command-and-control structure. The old model for communications, logistics and war fighting was an astonishingly inefficient hybrid that mixed the ideological militarism of the Long March with old-style Soviet doctrines about how to fight on land. Instead the Chinese are toying with a far more flexible-force structure, one that would rely more on highly mobile, highly modernized soldiers. Overall goal: a military that could fight "a limited war under high-tech conditions"--read Desert Storm in Asia. Out would be the old-style model of "military regions...
...second movie. But it's a pretty good one also, resolving as it does the relationship between adults and child and also giving Mastrantonio the chance to let some cracks in her composure begin to show. The movie may be called Limbo, but it definitively rescues Mastrantonio from the land of the lost. Plus, if talks between the two nations take place in Washington, the U.S. remains fully in the picture and positioned to claim a foreign policy coup...
Cibo Matto inhabits a strip of sonic territory between the hip-hop nation and the Land of the Rising Sun. The Japanese-American performing duo of Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda released a debut CD in 1996, Viva! La Woman, that was an irrepressible delight, fusing hip-hop rhythms with elusively poetic lyrics about culinary cravings. The duo's new album is more about vocal harmonies and hooky melodies. A few of the songs are four-ambulance conceptual disasters. But most of the tracks have a strange sweetness to them, leaving you feeling as though you've bitten into...
