...sets in the Yard area that will be available to Summer School students for Convention watching. One of these is in Grays itself and will be accessible from 1 to 11 p.m. throughout next week. The other, which is on the second floor of the Union, will "seat a larger crowd" and will be available as late as necessary each night until the Convention's business for that day is completed...
...passengers aboard the Swedish-American liner Stockholm were testing their first night at sea. The 12,644-ton Stockholm, more tourist than tony, had sailed shortly before noon that day from Manhattan for Copenhagen. After she slipped out into the Hudson River, she idled in the stream while the larger (44,356 tons) lie de France swung from her pier down the Hudson. Then in file the two ships moved past Manhattan's towers, out through the Narrows into the open sea. By 11 p.m. Stockholm, lie de France and Andrea Doria were all churning through the busy, often...
...Texan Jack Burke Jr. had his own system for standing the gaff of five days of nerve-twanging match play in the Professional Golfers Association championship at Canton, Mass. He pretended that the standard 4½-in. cup was actually two inches larger. This happy delusion kept his chip shots sharp, his putting amazingly accurate. With the additional help of body English on the greens, Burke beat Florida's Ted Kroll 3 and 2, to become the only golfer besides Sam Snead to win the Masters and P.G.A. tournaments in the same year...

Also of recent vintage was "The Promise of Living" from Copland's opera The Tender Land. This warm work needs a slightly larger body of singers. The concert ended with Vaughan William's hearty Let All the World in Every Corner Sing, which wanted only a more robust accompaniment...
...ceaseless fish-eat-fish mood of the reef world ("Most living creatures, including ourselves, live on other creatures," reminds the narrator), there are no more or less evil villains, only keener appetites and larger gullets. Best comic is a baby sea turtle who hungrily attacks the film's true hero, a shy, sensitive octopus many times the turtle's size. The assault only bores the octopus. Secrets ends with a wild battle between the octopus and the movie's most sinister actor, a moray eel. Result: a draw, with the myopic eel's keen sense...
