...Savarona is one of the three largest, most elegantly appointed yachts in the world. She is exceeded in length only by the British royal yacht Victoria and Albert and the Italian royal yacht Savoia, in tonnage by only the Victoria and Albert. Designed like a fast transatlantic passenger ship, carrying a crew of 83, she was built at a cost of $2,000,000 in the Blohm & Voss shipyards of Hamburg...
Because the largest Bucharest hotel, Athenée Palace, has been the political headquarters of the National Peasant Party, it has now been ordered closed by Dictator Carol "for ten years." That the Orthodox Patriarch & Premier is little more than a stooge for His Majesty was evident when it was found that the King's men had arrested, among 1,500 suspects of various sorts, 200 Orthodox priests...
When the Pennsylvania Museum of Art had its big Daumier show last autumn (TIME, Nov. 8), 14 of the largest and most valuable oils exhibited were listed as the property of "An Anonymous Lender." Korean Presbyterian churches, which are self-governing, may well follow Secretary Fulton's example if the Government tries to force their leaders to visit shrines...
...interim Robert Young has gone down the backstairs by getting the public holders of C. & O. common stock to rally to the defense of its present officers. Last week at the C. & O. meeting in Richmond they did so 3,175,000 shares (41%) strong, said to be the largest number of stockholders by person or proxy at any meeting in C. & O. history. Since Chesapeake Corp. has only a 35% interest, Robert Young felt pretty sure last week that even if he loses his control through the holding companies, the present officers of C. & O. will keep their jobs...
