...passion for belting out songs in public. Don't Stop Believing: How Karaoke Conquered the World and Changed My Life follows the hobby from its Japanese origins across the ocean to America and into Raftery's heart. With over ten years of karaoke experience, from the cheaply produced laser discs to live action performances backed by the Georgia-based indie rock group Of Montreal, Raftery has sung it all. TIME talks to him about his obsession, his fondness for an obscure Ghostbuster's II song, and why he doesn't want to die while singing along to R. Kelly...

...story, though, is high-concept and high-maintenance. In the Bond-worthy opening action scene, Bolt (voiced by John Travolta) is introduced as a Superdog: faster than Speed Racer, more powerful than Benji, able to hold a dangling car between his teeth, plus his gifts of bent-track laser-vision and the amazing thunder bark - all to help his "human," Penny (Miley Cyrus), escape an army of bad guys. In lieu of the double-entendre bons mots assigned to Connery, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan, Craig communicates in grunts and sullen, conceivably soulful, laser stares. Spying is no game with this 007; it's a job that's become a compulsion. Craig's Bond is a brute, Rambo with muscles bulging through...

...staffers, followed by McCain aides sliming Palin as a "diva" and "whack job," was too alluring for the media to ignore. In comparison, Obama's arch remark that Joe Biden can be given to "rhetorical flourishes" looked positively friendly. Another typical week in the message wars. Democrats methodically fired laser-guided missiles at McCain (that he's in lockstep with Bush and represents more of the same), while Republicans hurled every pot and pan within reach at the Teflon opposition (Obama is a socialist; Obama is a celebrity, etc.). The occasional GOP bull's-eye was overshadowed by many misses...
