This is the third time the Chess and Whist Club has contended with Mr. Cummings. The first time they won two games out of seven; the second, one game out of eight, and last night the score at the close of the meeting stood two games won, nine lost, and two unfinished...
...last five or six days the running track has been in good condition and has been used for practice by the Mott Haven candidates. Most of the men, except a few doubtful ones from '88, are now taking light exercise daily. There are not as many sprinters as usual now at work. For the quarter and half mile runs there are about the average number of candidates, and an unusually large number of mile runners. There is also a good outlook for the hurdle and bicycle races. Of last year's Mott Haven team some of the '88 men may compete again, and all the others are in training with the exception of Bell '91, who has trouble with his heart. The remarkable success which these services have met during the past three years shows conclusively that they fill a distinct place in the life of the University. ...meeting of the captains of the four class baseball nines was to have been held last night, but it was postponed on account of the absence of any representative from the sophomore class. A schedule of championship games was to be arranged, but it will have to be made out later in the season. The postponed meeting will probably be held directly after the recess...
