Though the action figure's popularity peaked in the late 1980s, Joe has been around in some form ever since. In the early 1990s, Hasbro reintroduced a line of larger, 12-in. G.I. Joes, and in 2004, the classic 1964 figures were rereleased to capitalize on Baby Boomer nostalgia. Some of the original, '60s-vintage G.I. Joes have fetched sizable prices. A rare and ill-fated G.I. In one song, he scolds partygoers who stay out late and get roughed up by the religious police. "He's a total sellout," says a 26-year-old student who now listens to exiled bands like the San Francisco-based group Kiosk who can criticize the government without retribution...
...Barisan Nasional coalition to its worst ever performance in 2008 polls. The mysterious death of an opposition political aide in July has compounded critics' concerns. In mid-July Teoh Beng Hock, 30, was found dead beneath the 14th story window of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission offfices after a late night interrogation by officers, sparking national outrage. Opposition lawmakers blame the death on the MACC and accuse the authorities of unleashing the commission against them. Veteran opposition lawmaker Lim Kit Siang is demanding a Royal Commission of Inquiry into all the circumstances leading to Mr Teoh's death. "The people...
