...Krauthammer's "The Trouble with Apologies" [April 26] missed the point. As Krauthammer stated, Franklin Roosevelt did not apologize for Pearl Harbor, Harry Truman did not apologize for dropping atom bombs, and Bill Clinton did not apologize for the Oklahoma City bombing. But those men did not pre-emptively launch a war against another country. By invading Iraq unnecessarily, by misleading the American public about the WMD threat of Saddam Hussein and his so-called ties to al-Qaeda, Bush put American lives at risk and U.S. influence on the line. For that, he owes the American public an apology...

...bills. This week New Jersey Governor James McGreevey, in a nod to the state's pharmaceutical industry, will inaugurate a $50 million stem-cell institute to be funded with state and private money. In California, activists last month submitted 1.1 million signatures--nearly twice as many as necessary--to launch a November ballot measure that would underwrite stem-cell research with $3 billion in state bonds over 10 years. Troubled aerospace giant Boeing finally gained altitude when Japan's All Nippon Airways (ANA) announced it would order 50 7E7 planes--Boeing's first new commercial jetliner in more than a decade. It's also the first Boeing jet with a foreign airline as the launch customer. The 7E7 is a midsize plane with about 250 seats. Take-off date: 2008. Although the plane retails for $120 million, launch customers traditionally get a hefty discount. The news comes at a crucial time. Boeing last year stopped making the 26-year-old 757 and might halt the 717 and 767 production...
