Yesterday the candidates for the University crew reported for the first day of fall rowing. Three eights were made up and sent up-stream for a short paddle, the work being directed by Coach Wray from the launch "John Harvard." The four veterans of last year's eight which won from Yale last June, Newton, Cutler, Strong and Metcalf, were placed in the waist of the boat at stroke, 7, 6, and 5 respectively.
