Five million dollars of the money extracted by John D. Rockefeller from Pennsylvania's oil-bearing substrata were last week applied to perpetuate the surface grandeur of 600 square miles of the Appalachian chain far south of Pennsylvania. The Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial fund announced that it had underwritten half of the $10,000,000 fund sought for the Great Smoky Mountains National park. Public subscription and the legislatures of North Carolina and Tennessee had provided most of the other $5,000,000 required to buy what will be the outstanding national park in the eastern...

Thanks for the Buggy Ride. This is one more somewhat rickety vehicle for the comic daintiness of Cinemactress Laura La Plante. It is an antiquated wagon, moving along upon wheels of device so often employed that they squeak loudly: thus, at a picnic, pigs gobble the sandwiches; when the picnickers, a young songwriter and a dancing instructress, seek nearby shelter they are embarrassingly mistaken for a married couple, which, later on, they become. ...Roxie" of Chicago is the "sex appeal" of the production. Vividly blond, with a Tanguay voice, and costumes to match, she is the most contagious if not the stellar light of the edition. Miss Grace Brinkley in the lead is very beautiful and very dumb. As an ingenue Laura Lee she manages to hold down her end of the flighty show rather well. As for the males in the cast, no one but Dr. George Rockwell was enabled or deserved to occupy the spotlight unduly long. After much perserverance he managed to exhaust the resistance of the audience...
