Usage:

Tuesday a petition to the faculty of the Law School was hastily written and signed by several members of the school. The petition requests that a departure shall be made from established custom and a mid-year examination be given in Criminal Law. The course is finished just before the midyears, and there appears to be no good reason why an examination should not then be given instead of putting the matter off till June.
