Last year 73 volumes were missing from the reading-room shelves at the end of the year--such books as Story's "Commentaries," 2 volumes; Adams's "Life of John Adams"; Thayer's "Cases on Constitutional Law"; Drake's "Landmarks of Boston"; Dowden's "Studies in Literature"; Abbott's "Shakespearean Grammar"; F. C. Lowell's "Joan of Arc"; Gardiner's "Story of Florence"; Calkins's "Problems of Philosophy"; Spencer's "First Principles"; Maudsley's "Physiology of the Mind"; Flynt's "Tramping with Tramps"; and others. ...Edward Henry Strobel '77, once Bemis Professor of International Law at the University, died yesterday in Siam. His death was due to poisoning contracted from the bite of an insect. After graduating from the College, Professor Strobel studied at the Harvard Law School, and received the degree of LL.D. in 1882. He was secretary of the United States legation in Madrid from 1885 to 1890, but returned to the United States in 1893 to become third assistant secretary of state. In 1894 he was appointed United States minister plenipotentiary to Ecuador, but resigned three years later to become minister...

The discussion will be open only to members of the club and their guests...

The registration of the Lawrence Scientific School, the Bussey Institute, and the Afternoon and Saturday Courses for Teachers indicates a considerable falling off from last year, which is not counterbalanced by gains in the Law School and the Summer School. The drop in the Lawrence Scientific School was to be expected, since many men are taking advantage of the opportunity to register in Harvard College for the degree of S.B. The loss from this cause is, however, only 108 as compared with 300 last year...
...this evening at 7 o'clock. The talks will extend over the months of January, February and March, and will be similar in nature to those delivered by Dean Fenn last year on the subject of St. Paul's life. The course is designed primarily for men in the Law School, but is open to all members of the University...
