Clapton Chronicles seems to be made for just such occasions. This 14-track album combines some of Eric Clapton's best from the past two decades, including the acoustic-strummers "Change the World," "Tears in Heaven," "My Father's Eyes" and "Layla" and throws in two more soundtrack tunes, "Blue Eyes Blue" (Runaway Bride) and "Get Lost" (The Story of Us). Yet, surprisingly, nothing from From the Cradle, Clapton's 1994 hit blues cover album is included. ...Seth's playing for the rest of the night. The rest of the band adapted well to the new style and Anastasio and Jakominski seemed to connect as both jammed blues-style for the end of the first half of the show. Including a cover of Eric Clapton's "Layla," the moments in which Phish added their old friend from Vermont as a fifth band member member were some of the sweetest of the night...

Clapton, of course, is more than just a bluesman--from Sunshine of Your Love to Layla to Tears in Heaven, he has displayed a mastery of a variety of musical styles, including hard rock and pure pop. But one thing the decidedly pop-oriented Pilgrim mostly lacks is something Clapton's best work, particularly his blues work, has always possessed--and that's guts...
More impressive may be the fact that there are only two seniors--captain Layla Adolphson and Liz Yellen--and one junior--Amy Mecklenburg--in the first boat. This is a youth-dominated squad, which bodes well for the next several years. With Radcliffe dominated by underclassmen and still the favorites for a second-straight national title, an era of domination may be beginning...
