Returning to competition after a three-month layoff, Hardin tripped and fell on the second corner, losing thirty yards to the leaders and falling back to last place. He gradually threaded his way through the field and moved into second place position behind M.I.T.'s Ben Wilson with seven laps to go. Then, with the crowd on its feet, Hardin blasted away from the bespectacled Engineer with a lap and a half remaining, covering the final 440 in 61 seconds...
