George Price's veneration for highbrow art goes back to his early infancy, when he lived near the late U.S. realist and cowboy painter Pop Hart in Coytesville, N.J. Price never went near an art school. He worked for General Electric as an inspector of soldering, did odd layout jobs in printing offices, finally landed with a poster and theatrical scenery outfit where he painted backdrops for vaudeville houses. In 1927, he went to Paris, spent four months drawing. After he got back to the U.S. he crashed The New Yorker with a $30 cartoon, has been cartooning ever...

Last week, when 173 of America 5 golfing Big Shots besieged Fort Worth, they found its Colonial Club as tough a layout as they had ever seen. A par 70 course, its narrow fairways are bordered by groves of pecan trees, swamps, ravines and the chocolate-colored Trinity River that meanders stray-catlike over the course. Its tough Bermuda grass was an annoying novelty to many. And two days of rain had brought out chiggers-the pesky little red bugs that burrow into human flesh and start an itch worse than a mosquito bite...

...rescue in 1932 came Robert F. Fiske, an industrial engineer, who made a survey of possible remedies. Apparently insignificant changes, such as the rearrangement of the shop layout, resulted in an increase in the average shop production from 78 to 90 per cent of standard requirements. The most striking alteration, however, was the introduction of the "group bonus payment system," which caused production to jump once more, from 90 to 104 per cent. While the wage scale at the Bindery at the present time is higher than those of outside firms, the prices are 15 to 40 per cent lower...
