Senate Finance Committee chairman Max Baucus has drafted a leaner, more focused stimulus plan, but he didn't miss his chance to throw in $2 billion for agriculture that could help his re-election chances in Montana next year. Majority leader Tom Daschle has begun talking of attaching Senator Robert Byrd's $20 billion "homeland security" package to the legislation as well.
