They are also drenched in evocative rhetoric about monstrous, insatiable female deities. The Women have been compared, severally and together, to the destroying Kali, to Robert Graves' White Goddess, to Alban Berg's Lulu, to Lilith and Marlene and Marilyn and Mona Lisa.
