Poor Brown went from a narrow defeat by Rhode Island to a larger loss to Penn to a rout by Yale. In the process the few reliable veterans the Bruins could count on sustained injuries. Now rookie Coach Len Jardine's squad, one notch below hapless, is called on to face undefeated Dartmouth. About all the Bruins, in turn, can call on is Providence, but if I happened to be there I'd stay clear of the football stadium. A merciful score would...

...Gang! Not half a dozen of the 1967 Cardinals were yet born when the famous old Redbird team was terrorizing the National League in the mid-1950s - but the family resemblance is unmistakable. There is Lou Brock dashing madly for second and sliding in safely with his 36th sto len base of the season. Curt Flood running full tilt into the centerfield wall to spear a liner that otherwise would have been a sure extra-base hit. Roger Maris crossing up the pulled-back enemy infield with a perfectly placed drag bunt. Orlando Cepeda explaining his .339 batting average...

Children, especially, delighted in watching Len Lye's kinetic Flip and 2 Twisters, stood entranced as three giant loops of steel jumped and jiggled for 15 minutes at a time. Adults, too, joined in the good-humored spoofs of Claes Oldenburg's gigantic, canvas-covered Ice Cream Cone and Falling Shoestring Potatoes, and his plaster Pecan Pie. They poked their fingers into the spongelike walls of Harold Paris' Pantomina llluma, a "feelies" room containing $10,000 worth of molded, twisted and flat rubber...

Editorial Economy. In the preface to his chronology of practically everything, Williams explains that he accumulated a stack of index slips that ran to 30 feet. Nobody can argue with his facts. What does seem regrettable is that he sometimes slights American achievements. Consider "Sport" in 1938: "Len Hutton scores 364 runs against Australia at the Oval Test Match (Aug.)." It would have only been cricket to add a separate-but-equal note reading: "Gabby Hartnett hits home run in the last of the ninth to give Chicago Cubs chance to win National League pennant (Sept...
