Until the faculty shortage eases, hospitals are finding creative ways to fill the gaps in nurses and technicians. JPS Health Network in Fort Worth, Texas, helped three local schools add 60 spots to their nursing programs by lending its own nurses, on hospital pay, as instructors. Pasco Hernando Community College found that local hospitals were so desperate for nurses that they were willing not only to lend clinical instructors but also to pay tuition and expenses for students who would make a two-year commitment to work as nurses when they graduate...

Deutsche Bank is recruiting corporate investors for its pioneering for-profit microcredit venture by pointing to its successful four-year trial run with a private donor-backed fund. Both funds seek to lend credibility--in the form of hard-currency collateral--so that MFIs can establish relationships with local banks and get better loan rates. Likewise, Citigroup has used its branches in places like Kenya to make local-currency loans to MFIs, with the hope that conservative local banks will follow suit...

Album art and liner notes have evolved a lot. The CD booklet is really the shrunken offspring of the vinyl LP sleeve, which was big enough to be almost a poster included with your album. It didn’t lend itself as well to belabored liner note essays or tributes—sorry Moby—but it gave artists a sumptuous amount of space to flaunt their chosen image or visual artistic vision...
