...Howard Leondar's "Mrs. Benson" is described as a "section of a novel." Perhaps, in the context of the entire work, this "section" has meaning; as an excerpt it does not. Mrs. Benson and the other inhabitants of Whitefield are bloodless, unfathomable creatures.
