John R. Early, leper, famous for 15 years for his vicissitudes in and out of confinement, broke quarantine for the fourth time, escaping from the Federal leprosarium at Carville, La. For three weeks he visited friends in the South and Middle West, then returned to his old home at Washington and surrendered to the District health authorities. The case of Early is a living tragedy, for he has been the subject of hot dispute among specialists, and has frequently been championed by Dr. L.
