...something. It is always a man, a bird, or something else," he insists. The Miró admirers who have now mounted a selection of 45 of his paintings at Washington's Hirshhorn Museum have another proposition: Miró is simply a great painter. Says Hirshhorn Director Abram Lerner: "Miró's place is alongside the most fertile of those giants -Picasso and Matisse...
...Maurice Chevalier once sang in bordello baritone to introduce Lerner and Loewe's Gigi, little girls grow up in the most delightful way. Leslie Caron certainly has; 21 years after the movie, the apprentice courtesan has matured into a Parisian Mrs. Robinson enticing or seducing three of her daughter's male school friends in a new French film Tous Vedettes (All Stars). After a Ford Foundation-funded study of the first five years of the program, the Divinity faculty this year voted overwhelmingly to continue the program for eight...
...director read and re-read material on King Arthur and the Round Table, including The Once and Future King, which was Lerner's immediate source for the musical. As a result, Sakas will present a Camelot stressing the figure of the king in the dual guises of man and monarch. Although turning points in the show come when Arthur must choose between his desires and his ideals, Sakas believes Arthur's fate, like that of most tragic heroes is already determined at the opening of the play. Such a view reinforces the interpretation of Camelot as a musical tragedy...
