...these Catholics so happy? Haven't they heard that the church in America is in turmoil and disarray--scolded by John Paul for laissez-faire theology, racked by internal squabbles over moral issues (artificial means of birth control, abortion, pre- and extramarital sex, divorce, gay and lesbian rights) up and down the hierarchy and tainted as well by scandal? The spate of news accounts in recent years about priests accused of sexually molesting children is only the most disturbing sign that something must be seriously wrong within the U.S. church. ...feels a sharp tug at her hair, thinks it's the bully, but then quickly and painfully discovers her hair is actually caught in the merciless grip of the bus's doors. Number 12: Manhattan, mid-'80s--same young girl, though older, wiser, and out as a lesbian now, saunters through the midtown law office she's temping for, chats it up with the lawyers and secretaries, blissfully upbeat, until a fellow word-processor lets her know that the back of her skirt is tucked into her tights...

...resembles a less-than-exclusive final club, it will remain a feeble presence on campus. For this reason, PUCC's coalition includes as equal partners leadership representatives and members of the Black Students Association (BSA), the South Asian Association, the Asian American Association (AAA), and the Bisexual Gay and Lesbian Students Association (BGLSA), along with leaders of Amnesty International, Harvard's Civil Liberties Union, Crimson staffers, many independent individuals, and, as Mr. Chung portentously reveals, a few figures from Perspective. Our 45 candidates and 100 non-candidate volunteers reflect Harvard's population in race, gender and ethnicity. They bring...
