...debate hasn't reached the same level of specificity in the U.S. The Food and Drug Administration has given food companies the freedom to tout the health benefits of omega-3s without differentiating between the plant-derived and fish-derived kinds. Instead of worrying about food labels, scientists there are questioning whether the omega-3 benefits of fish consumption outweigh the risks of getting too much mercury. The FDA has taken a tough stance, advising women who are pregnant, nursing mothers and young children to avoid eating fish that is high in mercury, such as swordfish, king mackerel and tilefish...
...film’s most intense moments. But finding the natural extreme of a career that counts a visually stirring and intellectually stunted film like 1991’s “Europa” as its peak leaves “Antichrist” on the level of an aesthetically-conscious “Evil Dead.” The second half is a mixture of out-loud laughable dialogue and uncomfortable gore (an exceptional combination of the two, when the talking fox devours its own entrails) that, however unintentionally, makes for terrific popcorn-viewing...
Nonetheless, Ishiguro remains a master at sketching out environments and characters through minimal, precise language. The struggling songwriter manages to conjure a grimy, lethargic music scene with characteristically British wit: “But the majority of auditions happened at a much more shambolic level. Running nearly 70 minutes, and consisting of little more than shots of a spinning turntable with the band’s commentary edited over the music, “Musicvision” is certainly a commitment. The video, directed by Guillaume Dellaperriere, confirms what Phoenix was only able to say through implication on the Kitsuné record. A song by foundational ’60s band The Red Krayola...
...estimated 800 marathons are now held around the world each year; 20 of them with 10,000 or more finishers. They include such punishing races as the Great Tibetan Marathon, held at 12,500 ft. above sea level; the Polar Circle Marathon, held on Greenland's ice cap; and the Pikes Peak marathon, which includes a 6,000-ft. climb to the summit of the Colorado mountain. Record times have fallen from close to three hours a century ago to close to two hours today, with Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie setting the current record in Berlin last year with a time...
