Most of the scenes were taken at Newell Boat House, showing some of the preparations which Tom Bolles takes in producing his winning crews. From the first day in which the candidates appear, the training routine is followed through sessions in the tank, training in the Leviathan, and finally rowing in the shells...
With singles open only to upperclassmen during the summer term, water-minded Freshmen--150 strong --have turned to Newell, where, under the tutelage of Harvey Love, the majority of them patiently plied the Charles in the Leviathan until they were good enough to be transferred to one of the eight oared shell barges...
Most of the Freshmen being beginners, they were automatically relegated to the training barge. Those who had had some prep school experience were put into boats right away, but many of them were sooner or later transferred back to the Leviathan where Harvey could help them iron out some kink in their form, and to date, almost all the Freshmen out for crew have had their turn in the barge...

There will be many more eights than now coming out of Newell every day, but no one who has not rowed before will be allowed out in a House crew until he has passed several weeks on the Leviathan. Informal regattas to test the mettle of the rival eights will probably be arranged towards the end of each session...
House crews will have the advantage of excellent coaching this summer, as Varsity coach, Tom Bolles, and Freshman coach, Harvey Love, are going to devote their talents to the House eights. Inexperienced upperclassmen will be able to start from scratch in the "Leviathan" with the new Freshmen instead of going right into one of the slender shells. There is a chance that the Union Boat Club will organize a summer regatta in which the House crews will participate...
