...worst day in a presidency with more than its share of bad days. Within the hour they faced a parade of hyperventilating talk-show hosts clutching the Constitution and handicapping the prospect of impeachment proceedings; of psychologists explaining how to tell children that the President might be a liar and a serial philanderer; of network anchors jetting back from Havana, where they had thought maybe the big story of the week would occur; and of Clinton explaining that yes, the American people had a right to hear an answer about whether he had seduced an employee, but no, he wasn...
...President has mastered the art of speaking precisely. But ironically--and sadly for the nation--that precision has left us with a great deal of uncertainty. My nausea was compounded by the President's delivery and facial expression in that interview. The President is not a convincing liar. We all notice how he bites his lower lip when he's saying something not completely true. This time, though, he didn't even bite his lip. He just looked at Lehrer...and apparently lied. Long after her White House tenure was done, Linda Tripp came to Kenneth Starr with a way to make the charges stick...
BAGHDAD: At least the war of words is becoming more imaginative: Back during the standoff last month, Madeleine Albright called Saddam Hussein a ?congenital liar,? and Tariq Aziz fired back: ?It is she who is the liar.? Now, if nothing else, the two sides are becoming more loquacious: President Clinton called Saddam ?maddeningly stupid? Monday, while Iraqi newspapers retorted Wednesday that Clinton was an ?ugly adolescent? who has turned the White House into ?a nightclub where he plays the music himself on the flute and guitar...
