Gentlemen centers on two facets of masculinity, anger and libido. The CD jacket photos show a little boy staring into space from the edge of a bed, as a little girl watches him from the other side of the bed, a classic morning-after position. Song after song on this album projects this mood of somber reflection mixed with bitterness, as lead singer/ songwriter Greg Dulli sings to a woman, pleading, "Hear me now and don't forget/I'm not the man/My actions would suggest/ A little boy, I'm tied to you I fell apart/That's what I always...
...mother, sister, daughter, lover, angel, home." How small and sad and funny men are in comparison! At one end of the spectrum they are like the midget bluenose in Boccaccio 70 (1962) overwhelmed by Anita Ekberg as a sexual giantess -- it's the attack of the 50-ft. libido. She and Slater have an interesting "coming of age" scene, but if you are looking for hot sultry sex, better rent "9 1/2 Weeks...
Vitamin E's ribald reputation as a sexual enhancer has made it one of the most ballyhooed -- and best-selling -- of all dietary supplements. Truth is, E does little to lift the libido but it does appear to influence matters of the heart vitally. Two studies, reported in last week's New England Journal of Medicine, found that people who swallowed large doses of the vitamin in pill form -- at least 10 times the daily allotment recommended by the U.S. government -- had a nearly 40% lower risk of heart disease than those who consumed more modest doses. That two studies...
