Sunday to Sunday. An ardent gymnast and weight lifter, Margaret nonetheless bristles at the suggestion that she is some kind of Amazon in sneakers. Shy and demure off court, she is a green-eyed blonde with a fondness for gourmet cooking and fashion design. Maggie grew up in Albury, New South Wales, playing tennis against the boys. At 15 she had collected so many trophies that her parents sent her off to train with Frank Sedgman in Melbourne. At 17 she became the youngest woman ever to win the Australian championship. Two years later she was ranked the world...

Natural Posers. "As a former weight lifter and as a specialist in cardiovascular disorders," Dr. William S. Breall of San Francisco writes to the Journal editors: "I would like to note a few other possible dangers." Of them all, only Lewis Medlock seems outward-bound for the heart of darkness. At 38, he is an expert archer, spelunker, weight lifter and fiend for physical fitness; he is also an obsessive and philosophic seeker of challenges. He presses the others to join him on a three-day canoe trip down a north Georgia mountain gorge...

Helden Chest. The other winner, William Cochran, 25, was almost barred from the audition as too young. A huge, 250-lb. former weight lifter and lineman on the Wesleyan University football team, Cochran once wanted to become a minister. But singing in the Wesleyan Glee Club eventually diverted him to Philadelphia's Curtis Institute. Already a veteran of concert engagements and small roles at the Metropolitan Opera, his selections from Lohengrin and Walkure displayed massive power and a brilliantly glossy upper register. Every day, Cochran runs a mile and works out to preserve such Heldentenor traits...
