...interviews on syndicated radio programs and television. I fear that Shania's quest for privacy, including her move to Switzerland, may alienate some country-music fans. I also don't understand why her husband and record producer Mutt Lange feels that he needs to be out of the limelight. Celine Dion's husband Rene Angelil certainly has no problem appearing in public with his wife. And if it weren't for Rene, I suspect that Celine would not have the career she enjoys. Among all registered voters, President Bush beats both men handily: 55% to 39% in a race against Lieberman and 56% to 39% against Kerry. Aside from adding some understated sound effects--a newspaper plopping on the porch, the bell when a soda fountain's front door opens and shuts--director James Naughton leaves the play alone. And left alone, it is as moving...
...March riots raged on for weeks in Gujarat, they provoked particular alarm. While human-rights groups demanded Modi be tried for genocide, Hindu political parties, cultural groups and hordes of street demonstrators celebrated him as India's great defender. From a political nobody, Modi was catapulted into the international limelight as the white-haired, bespectacled figurehead of Indian intolerance, a national Hindu hero. Faltering from a lackluster...
