There is considerable optimism as a result of the races last Saturday. Despite a following wind which helped the Quakers more than has generally been recognized, the University crews came through strong at the finish and pushed the Pennsylvanians to the limit. Dr. Howe has proved that he can develop a crew which, if it cannot win all its races, will at least always make "a creditable and sportsmanlike showing...
...solution which would completely avoid the difficulty is made impossible by the human factor involved; but a partial avoidance would not seem to be beyond the limit of attainment. The exactness now strived for in the Announcement constitutes one obstacle which might easily be overcome. If, in regard to courses which may not be given each year, some statement of probability could be made, the responsibility would be shifted to the student. For example, if a certain course were announced this year as "probably omitted in 1924-25", those wishing to take that course would have to take the statement...

This limit will be determined by a point system, and allowance will be made for the more brilliant who prove competent to handle more...
Without revolutionizing the system it seems reasonable that this extra pressure should be reduced as much as possible. Several instructors already have exempted Seniors from tests in the coming two weeks and others have extended the time limit for Seniors on term reports. If this were made a general custom the back of the pre-Divisional grind would be broken. The main objection, apparently, that has prevented such action is the fear that a precedent would be established giving the students an opening for further letting down of the bars. There seems to be no real grounds for such...
