That's why I was so interested in a report last week in the Journal of the American Medical Association. A team of Japanese researchers was able to link green-tea consumption with decreased mortality from all causes--including cardiovascular disease. The researchers tracked 40,530 healthy adults ages 40 to 79 in a region of northeastern Japan where most people drink green tea, following them for up to 11 years. Those who drank five or more cups of green tea a day had significantly lower mortality rates than those who drank less than one cup a day. There were...
...have two oddballs, and we’re beginning to wonder if we’re missing something,” he said, adding that these findings are “sending theoretical astrophysicists back to the drawing board.” Via a remote link, the team is continuing to observe the star’s wobble using the Center for Astronomy observatory in Arizona to understand HAT-P-1’s orbit better. “The orbit may be slightly elliptical...that’s important,” Noyes said. “If it?...
...School of Dental Medicine professor cleared last month of allegations that he covered up links between fluoride and bone cancer is listed as a million-dollar benefactor of the school’s new research and education building. The revelation has led one environmental advocacy group to suggest that a recent Harvard investigation of the professor, Chester W. The Washington-based Environmental Working Group, which initially brought the accusations against Douglass, said on Friday that the professor’s donation...
...game. You'd think I could just ignore Ed Champion (you can find him at edrants.com yeah, go ahead, don't all click at once), and most of the time I do. But it's harder than you'd think. Blogs reach a big audience. People read him. People link to him. Google frickin' loves Ed. Not long ago I set up a website of my own, and despite the fact that it's my website, and it deals with nothing but Lev Grossman, and it's located at levgrossman.com Ed's website still comes up ahead of mine half...
...There is one more reason that I won't be throwing eBible to the top of my "favorites" queue, however. At least for now, although other links on the site occur almost instantaneously, the money link, the one that actually takes you into scripture, is considerably slower than BibleGateway's. That may be the price you pay for all that interactivity, but for a guy who mostly wants to be able to cite chapter and verse like he actually went to Sunday school, it's a problem. I type "slow" into eBible and it reminds me that Moses was "slow...
