...have long-range financing yet, but we will if our cleaning project works out," says Brother William Dooling. Since October, 40 Holy Cross students have received city licenses to sell liquid cleaning products (wax, shampoo, polish) door to door. As a franchised distributor, Holy Cross nets $3,000 a month after paying commissions to the student salesmen. Eventually, the brothers expect students from other local schools to join in selling the products on the same basis...

...advertisements for one such item have been appearing in Mademoiselle, Harper's Bazaar, Cosmopolitan and other publications. An unclothed, deadpan model looks out from under the slyly provocative headline: "Relax. And Enjoy the Revolution." The product is Cupid's Quiver, a $3.50 package of twelve sachets of liquid douche concentrate that is offered in two floral scents (orange blossom and jasmine), as well as two flavor scents (raspberry and champagne). Physicist Frank Donahoe of Pennsylvania's Wilkes College, for one, thinks that polywater could pose a threat to all life. Once it is let loose, the stuff might propagate itself, feeding on natural water. The proliferation of such a dense, inert liquid, warns Donahoe, could stop all life processes, turning the earth into a "reasonable facsimile of Venus." Lippincott considers that danger slight. Mr. Brouček involves a flight to the moon (although the propulsive liquid is beer rather than rocket fuel) and a 15th century invasion of Czechoslovakia. The Makropulos Case tells of a 300-year-old woman who discovers the secret of eternal life and finds eternity not worth enduring...

Now, less than an hour before the late-morning blastoff, dark clouds rolled ominously across the last patches of blue in the Florida sky; a drizzling rain turned into a heavy downpour that virtually blotted pad 39A from view. But NASA officials, buoyed by a long string of space successes, were undaunted by the dangerous omens. The order was given to proceed. More reliable than any commuter train, the 11:22 moon rocket departed from Cape Kennedy. It was on schedule...
