...armor and wait it out. But the soldier behind me was screaming at me to run. I did. I don't really remember the next 75 meters; only throwing myself at the pile of soldiers huddled between the humvee and the mountainside. Mortars coming from the Korengal outpost lit up the sky in flashes. I could see a tangle of limbs and chests heaving to suck in oxygen. The smell of sweat intermingled with the scent of the mountain sage bushes we were crushing under our cumulative weight. My head rang with the sound of returning fire coming from...
...compatible with Nintendo's popular library of DS cartridges. A few DSi-specific games can be wirelessly downloaded from an online store, but they were mostly disappointing. For example, WarioWare: Snapped! has you move in response to onscreen cues, but the motion-detecting game required a very well-lit room and still behaved erratically. Nintendo will add more games over time, and motion detection could someday make the DSi as innovative and cool as the Wii. I just hope none of the games involve twisting paper napkins...
...sincerity. I met him halfway through the protest march, where Columbia Boulevard starts to sag toward the Columbia River. Tall and broad-shouldered, he was leaning against a stone wall, filming the protesters - for Mayo, he said - with a small Taiwanese Aiptek HD camera. If so, you're in luck: Harvard has other lovely study spaces. You don't have to stay in your dimly lit walk-through to throw yourself into Foucalt or drill Latin verbs. Although many reading rooms are open only during the day--unfortunate timing for procrastinators and FlyBy reporters--if you're the type who studies when the sun is still up, these locales are perfect for in between classes. Here...
...roads. Apartheid's rulers absolved themselves of any blame for this poverty by arguing that blacks were free to do what they wanted in the homelands - but had proved unwilling or incapable of developing. It wasn't an argument that washed with their opponents. The Eastern Cape's poverty lit the flame of rebellion in Mandela and Mbeki, both born and raised near the dirt-poor Transkei city of Mthatha, and Steve Biko, who grew up in nearby King William's Town. Even today, both the ANC and COPE claim the Eastern Cape as their heartland...
