...mall security camera captured a shaky image of two 10-year-old boys leading a much smaller boy out of a Liverpool, England, shopping center. The boys lured James Bulger, 2, away from his mother, who was shopping, and led him on a long walk across town. The excursion ended at a railroad track. There, inexplicably, the older boys tortured the toddler, kicking him, smearing paint on his face and pummeling him to death with bricks before leaving him on the track to be dismembered by a train. The boys, Jon Venables and Robert Thompson, then went off to watch...

...Sting's "Every Breath You Take" and R.E.M.'s "Losing my Religion." OK, that made sense because Sting and R.E.M. were playing the festival. The Orquestra also played "Eleanor Rigby." That also made sense because of the aforementioned local love affair with all things related to the boys from Liverpool. The video montage that accompanied the medley, however, did not make sense - it was a mystery, wrapped in an enigma, hidden in a riddle and displayed on huge screens on either side of the stage for a few hundred thousand people to try and figure out. ...promise: today is the 20th anniversary of John Lennon's murder. Pity that means Yoko will probably say something that will come across as more self-serving than heartfelt. And pity the movie-of-the-week about Lennon last Sunday was so terrible. Talk about going down to Liverpool to do nothing. December 8 is also Jim Morrison's birthday, although the annoying inconvenience of death puts a damper on things. Light a fire in memory...
