...grounded the T-3s last July 25 after an engine once again stopped in midair and neither the cadet nor the instructor could restart it. Luckily, the plane was over the academy runway and landed safely. "We want an effective flight-screening program, but a safe one," says General Lloyd Newton, head of the service's Air Education and Training Command in San Antonio, Texas, who ordered the grounding. "We've certainly bumped into some rough spots with this aircraft, but that doesn't mean it's a bad aircraft...
Except possibly those mornings the reviews for his shows come out. With the apparent end of Andrew Lloyd Webber's string of hits, Wildhorn has taken over as the middlebrow melodist critics love to hate. His soaring ballads are dismissed as bland pop geared for easy-listening radio; his shows are scorned as cut-rate imitations of Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. ("The man writes galumphing, dunderheaded musicals that make...everything by Andrew Lloyd Webber seem like great art"--Newsday.) But he is a musical populist and proud of it. "Lyrics can be hard to grasp," he says...
...Based on the autobiographical story by Capote, it stars Patty Duke and is set in Alabama in the 1930s. Duke plays Sook, a childlike but loving old woman, who lives with her two sisters, her brother and her little cousin Buddy. Sook and Buddy (the adorable Eric Lloyd) are best friends. This relationship offends Sook's bossy, practical sister Jennie (Piper Laurie). They should be separated, Jennie decides, and Buddy must be sent to military school after the holidays...

"We lived in an enchanted world," says the Czar's mother Marie (voiced by Angela Lansbury) of a land that festered with hot heads and empty bellies. The film then pins the whole Revolution on the monk Rasputin (Christopher Lloyd). Furious at being ejected from the Czar's court, he vows revenge, unleashes the forces of revolt, dies and returns, madder than ever, to chase down Anya. "We invented a lot of Rasputin's story," acknowledges Mechanic. "But parents and teachers who have seen the film feel this is a piece...
...energy usually present in this style of music without compensating for that lack of energy with interesting instrumental themes. And none of the songs are redeemed by meaningful lyrics. Most simply make one statement and then repeat it, and those that elaborate do so in a superficial manner. Floyd Lloyd succeeds in offering a vision of soft ska, but he does not succeed in actualizing that vision. What is left is a CD that is mediocre at best--sapping the music of its energy and leaving nothing substantial in its place...
